Maybe this is the year you sell your home? It's a sellers market around the Frankfort area (and most of the Chicago Suburbs) so selling now might be a good time. Here are some spring cleaning tips for inside and outside your home. Take advantage of the weather finally changing and tackle some of these outdoor projects. Work on the inside of the home during our Midwest rain storm days.
Inside the Home
Declutter and depersonalize: Removing clutter from your home will make it look more spacious and organized. It's also a good idea to depersonalize the space by removing family photos, artwork, and personal items. This will allow potential buyers to envision themselves living in the space.
Deep clean: A deep clean is essential when preparing your home for sale. This includes cleaning carpets, floors, windows, and surfaces. Dust and vacuum every nook and cranny, and scrub bathrooms and kitchens until they sparkle.
Paint and repair: If your walls are scuffed or your paint is outdated, a fresh coat of paint can work wonders. Stick to neutral colors that will appeal to a wide range of buyers. Repair any damages such as holes in walls or broken light fixtures.
Upgrade lighting: Replace outdated light fixtures with modern ones that will brighten up the space. Consider adding lamps to rooms that need more light.
Enhance curb appeal: First impressions matter, so focus on making the exterior of your home look its best. This includes mowing the lawn, trimming hedges, and adding colorful plants and flowers. Clean the front porch, and if necessary, repaint the front door.
Clean the garage and attic: Clean and organize the garage and attic, removing any items that are no longer needed. This will show off your storage space and give potential buyers a good impression of your home.
Stage your home: Staging your home involves rearranging furniture and decor to make it look more appealing to potential buyers. This can be done by yourself or by a professional stager.
Check the HVAC system: Make sure your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system is in good working condition. Change the air filters and have it serviced if needed.
Update appliances: If your appliances are outdated, consider upgrading them to modern, energy-efficient ones. This can be a selling point for potential buyers.
Address any odors: Unpleasant odors can turn off potential buyers. Make sure your home smells fresh and clean, and address any pet or smoke odors.
Outside the Home
Rake and clean up debris: Begin by raking and removing any leaves and debris left over from winter. This includes cleaning up any fallen branches or twigs.
Inspect and clean gutters: Check your gutters for any damage or clogs, and clean them out if necessary. This will prevent water damage to your home.
Power wash exterior surfaces: Power wash your home's exterior surfaces, including the siding, deck, and patio. This will remove any dirt or grime that has built up over time.
Prune trees and shrubs: Trim any overgrown trees or shrubs to keep them healthy and looking neat. This will also help prevent any potential damage to your home from falling branches.
Fertilize and aerate the lawn: Fertilize and aerate your lawn to encourage healthy growth and improve its appearance.
Plant flowers and shrubs: Add color and interest to your yard by planting flowers and shrubs. Choose plants that are appropriate for your region and that will thrive in your yard's specific conditions.
Repair any outdoor structures: Check your fence, shed, and other outdoor structures for any damage or needed repairs. This will help keep your yard looking tidy and well-maintained.
Inspect and repair the driveway and walkways: Look for any cracks or damage in your driveway or walkways, and have them repaired if necessary. This will improve the safety and appearance of your home's exterior.
